  • Help with writing environmental impact assessments and mitigation plans

  • Provide engineers with input on eco-friendly design optimizations

Possible topics for graduation research projects:

  • Modelling of wave dampening effects of (large) floating structures at sea

  • Discerning chlorophyll concentrations from ocean satellite imagery (North Sea) and calibration with field sensor(s)

  • Effects of shadow on benthic habitats [in tropical ecosystems] due to floating structures

  • Possible interactions of marine wildlife (focus on birds, marine mammals) and floating structures

Bedrijfsprofiel

Oceans of Energy is a young company founded in 2016. We develop floating systems for renewable energy at sea. Our goal is to allow all islands and all populations near the sea to generate clean energy using their ocean space rather than their scarce land.

We are passionate about creating new maritime technology. We believe that an innovation is most successful when lead by a small organization which is 100% focused on making it a success, while we cooperate actively with research institutes and the offshore industry. Our team is a mixture of young professionals and several seniors with many years of experience. We offer internships throughout the year and consider students as equal team members.

The Research Department plays a key role in the successful role out of our technology. We want to deliver clean energy to the planet in a sustainable manner, so we should not harm the natural environment in any way. We do research on possible environmental impacts of (and ecosystem effects on) our technology, material research, synergies with aquaculture and offshore wind. We carry out research in-house as well as with universities and research institutes. Starting beginning of 2019 we will deploy our first floating solar pilot offshore, and with this we will start an environmental monitoring campaign. We are looking for interns to strengthen our environmental research team during this first, exciting operational phase. We also invite students to carry out a MSc thesis research project, topic to be developed collaboratively with your university supervisor and Oceans of Energy.
